This project involved the successful deployment and burial of a 17-mile subsea telecom cable in San Francisco Bay, achieving record-breaking installation efficiency and resulting in the bolstering of regional connectivity.
To address the complex challenges of marine operations—such as heavy lift over water, fluctuating depths, currents, navigable areas, and daily changes—Gaeaquatics, a global specialist in subsea cable engineering and management, sought out Power Engineering Construction for their local knowledge, fleet of marine assets, and skilled personnel.
Tasked with a pivotal role, Power assisted with the deployment of the custom-manufactured fiber optic cables, crafted in Germany. Our crew supported the placement, jetting, and burial of the cable beneath the seafloor, adhering to strict land lease requirement of proposed alignment.
Undoubtedly, the project encountered its share of challenges. Operating on a demanding 24-hour schedule, our crew’s navigation of equipment availability and logistical constraints was truly something to marvel at. Innovating on the fly, solutions were also devised to operate heavy machinery in shallower waters while upholding environmental protocols.
With partners spanning from Germany to London and Greece, Power worked diligently to coordinate with all project stakeholders. From preconstruction planning to execution and closeout, we navigated time zones and cultural differences to deliver on our commitment to quality and reliability, ensuring the successful completion of a project that will shape the future of communication infrastructure in the San Francisco Bay and beyond.
